How it works
In the brain, nothing reaches the cortex without passing through the thalamus first. It decides nothing: it sorts, filters and distributes. TRACE does exactly that with what an agent knows, remembers and can touch.
Twenty agents each talking to every service on their own are twenty places to rotate a credential and none to look at what the whole thing has done. With one door there is one credential, one declared identity and one record. The cost of the alternative does not show up on day one: it shows up the day something has to change.
A system that keeps everything has no memory: it has a landfill. The filter is not an optimisation, it is what keeps the rest useful.
Today's state is not stored the way a project log is, and neither is stored the way signed doctrine is. Separated by what they answer, not by their technology.
Months from now someone will ask who decided this. An anonymous script with a token cannot answer; an agent with identity and an audit trail can.
Reach
An agent does not need to know where each thing lives. It asks for what it needs and the door takes care of it: same credential, same record, whatever the service and whatever the day.
If a capability is not behind the door, it does not get improvised outside — it gets brought in. That rule is what holds up everything else.
Why
What the agent learned is still there tomorrow, on another machine, after the container is rebuilt. Without that, every session starts by explaining the project again.
Each agent shows up with its own coordinate. That is not cosmetic: it is what lets you answer months later, and what separates an agent from a script with a token.
The cost of the alternative does not appear on day one. It appears the day a key has to be rotated and nobody knows how many places break.
A new agent does not repeat the mistake another one made six months ago on a project it never heard of. But a lesson only rises once it has proved useful more than once, in more than one place.
Getting started
